Women’s Para Hockey Canada works to enable Canadian girls and women+ with disabilities to achieve long term participation and sporting excellence in para hockey with a sustainable program nationally.

Their mission is to contribute to the health and well-being of girls and women+ with disabilities by developing, promoting, and providing opportunities to participate in the sport of para hockey from grassroots development to an elite level throughout Canada. Through sport, develop an environment and attitude that promotes inclusion, collaboration, teamwork, self-efficacy, and gender parity, while educating and empowering girls and women+.

The book examines the history of the women’s sport in Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia. For more than 150 years, their gender was questioned, monitored, hidden, disparaged,  and trivialized. Even so, teams were formed and stars emerged. From the “Miracle Maid” of the early 20th century to members of today’s Professional Women’s Hockey League, these are the stories of women who truly had ice in their veins.
