My Indian Summer is the First Nation Communities READ Young Adult/Adult Selection for 2023-24
Tidewater Press is very pleased to announce that Joseph Kakwinokanasum’s debut novel has been named the FNCR selected title in the Young Adult/Adult Category for 2023-24. A jury of librarians from First Nation Public libraries across Ontario chose My Indian Summer as representing the best in Indigenous literature, and it will receive the PMC Indigenous Literature Award, sponsored by Periodical Marketers of Canada. Congratulations also to the award winner in the Children’s Category, Phoenix Gets Greater, by Marty Wilson-Trudeau with Phoenix Wilson (illustrations by Megan Kyak-Monteith), published by Second Story Press. The selected authors will both receive a cash prize of $5000.
This year, the First Nation Communities READ program, hosted by the Ontario Library Service, is celebrating twenty years of showcasing Indigenous literature for the library community and beyond. The selected titles will be recognized online during First Nation Public Library Week on October 5, 2023 at 11 am EST.
